HUMAN BEINGS ARE NOT ILLEGAL
We immigrants who live and work in this country, who are part of its present and its future, we are suffering from a growing racism. Everyday we experience episodes of injustice, legal discrimination, violence and exploitation comparable to slavery, which trample upon human dignity itself.
After the revolts against racism and organized crime which took place in Rosarno and a year before in Castelvolturno, the only reaction by the state has been an increased repression. Instead of focusing efforts on the fight against exploitation of black labour, the State does not recognize that immigrants are a strong resource for a common struggle against any mafia. Constant announcements by Interior Minister Maroni, together with the restrictive measures passed by Berlusconi government, criminalize immigrants, engendering unjustified fears against non-Italians, fuelling frustration and distrust towards all migrants.
We feel the need, for our children, Italian and immigrant, who are attending schools, studying, playing and growing up together, to guarantee a future where differences are seen as a wealth and a resource for the whole country. Building up a model of true integration between Italians and immigrants must be an objective to be pursued all together, in order to live in a modern country, where rights can be guaranteed beyond skin colour, nationality and religious faith.
“A day without us”: 1 march 2010 is an international day of action against any form of “State racism in Europe”. It was first launched in France and then reached Italy and Greece. Protests, strikes, symbolic initiatives, more or less sensational, will claim respect and rights for all immigrant citizens, who largely contribute with their work to Europe’s wealth and cannot be blamed responsibility for economic crisis!
We want to sound the alarm for all this and invite all Italian and immigrant citizens to the 1 march 2010 protest, to defend our rights. We invite all workers, with whom we feel sympathetic for the difficulties provoked by the crisis, as well as the students, associations, unions, movements, anti-racist political forces, religious and non religious groups. We ask everyone to give a hand, bringing to the street their imagination and sympathy, to make this day an opportunity of struggle as well as of cultural interchange among the various ethnic groups living in Naples and Campania.
National objectives:
- Extending the possibility to get a legal permit from family carers only to all immigrants
- Abolishing the“security packet” and all racist laws
- Resident permit for those who report episodes of exploitation and black labour
- Stopping racism and violence against immigrants, on the increase after Rosarno.
- Saying no to mass repatriation and bilateral agreements which provide for it
- Granting asylum to all refugees and asylum-seekers
- Closing down CIE (Centers for Identification and Expulsion)
- Right to have a job, a house, an education and health treatments
- Possibility to keep the permit in case one loose their job.
As far as the situation in Campania is concerned: - Solving the problems of the former regularization
- Creating housing structures instead of evicting people without giving them an alternative
- Promoting respect and market spaces for street merchants and ensuring equal dignity to Italian and immigrant shops
- Guaranteeing more rights and security for all workers
